This is not a pastoral poem to celebrate A mother scales mountains of laundry
Fiords rivers of dishwater;
Risks life and limb crossing Lego highways;
Faces cherubic interrogation late into the night.
Writers say she is not the universal voice
When I compose this epic it is to sing of this experience
How I have been the producer of life
I have been food and drink.
